PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
