Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
